Beach Bags
The Beach Bags program provides shelf-stable meals and healthy snacks to students who might otherwise go hungry during weekends and over school breaks, including the long summer breaks.
During the 2023-2024 school year, 47,000 Beach Bags were distributed to Virginia Beach City Public School Students.
Each Bag Contains:
- (2) Individual-sized cereal boxes or oatmeal
- (2) 8 oz. servings of shelf-stable milk
- (2) Individual-sized meals (ravioli, spaghetti & meatballs, macaroni & cheese, etc.)
- (2) 4 oz. fruit cups and/or 100% juice boxes
- (2) Snack items (granola bars, raisins, pretzels, etc.)
Without donations, the annual cost to provide these bags ($5.00/Beach Bag) would be close to $250,000. One hundred percent of our community’s monetary donations is used to purchase food for students in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. No donations are used for administrative program costs.
Even with donations, in 2022-2023, we spent $100,000 more than we raised for the program. So, every dollar matters.
